We'd be remiss here on Smitten in not celebrating National Masturbation Month, right? Yes, there’s an entire month devoted to celebrating self-induced orgasms, and with good reason. In honor of this momentous month, We-Vibe polled 600 people between the ages of 20 and 70 to get their thoughts about it. Here, you’ll see that the results range from hilarious to quite shocking. Pat yourselves on the back, millennials: 85 percent of you are comfortable discussing masturbation with friends, while a smaller yet still respectable 65 percent of Generation X-ers say the same.
Although 45 percent of the respondents started masturbating between the ages of 13 and 19, 20 percent of women didn’t start until their early 20s.
Only one to five percent of people reported feeling things like shame, regret, and loneliness after masturbating, though we still think that should be reduced to zero.
OK, here’s where things get into eyebrow-raising territory: A surprising 19 percent of women have masturbated in their cars. Certainly not while driving, right? Please?
As the weather gets warmer, people are less likely to do it. A whopping 82 percent of respondents said they masturbate more during the winter.
Good vibes: 50 percent of women incorporate a vibrator into their self-love or are intrigued by the thought of it. On the not-so-good side, 50 percent of women say it’s easier to reach orgasm while on their own/with a vibrator than with a partner. Orgasm gap, anyone?
